They claim to charge a pre-authorization fee to your credit card, but in reality, it is processed as an actual transaction. After multiple verifications with two of my banks, it was confirmed as a direct charge, not a pre-authorization. The hotel staff are highly unprofessional—they link unauthorized charges to your credit card without secondary confirmation or any notification! The hotel admitted this was a manual operation by their staff. While the charge was eventually refunded, the fact remains terrifying: your card, which was only authorized for a pre-authorization, can be arbitrarily used by the hotel to deduct any fees without your consent!
Despite patient communication with the hotel and providing extensive bank documentation to expedite the return of my deposit, they still refused to acknowledge their wrongdoing. If the hotel responds to this review claiming they "processed the cancellation," it will further expose their deceit. My bank confirmed that if they had genuinely canceled the pre-authorization, the bank would have received immediate notification (even if it takes days to reflect in personal accounts). However, my bank's backend data shows no cancellation attempt has been made by the hotel to date.
Beyond financial issues, another reason to avoid this scam operation: When I felt cold at night and called the front desk to inquire about heating functions (which they claimed existed), an employee was sent but failed to operate the system. After struggling, he bluntly admitted, "I don't know how." When I asked for solutions, he consulted the front desk and later returned with a contradictory explanation: "The hotel AC has no heating function!" This is the "service" of a five-star hotel!
I'm willing to provide any necessary proof to help others avoid this terrible establishment. As a hotel under the Langham Hospitality Group, I will continue escalating this matter. The reputation of New Zealand's Cordis Hotel is being destroyed by these fraudulent practices!
